Poor Kay she joined Digital Playground to make Cherry. Two episodes were produced and then she was left in professional limbo by the company. She was hoping after Cherry won an award to make the third episode. Manwin bought Digital Playground and now she's out. She's going to give details on twitter today. I wish her all the best.

Nelson will give the details I'm sure.

Cherry was a very ambitious effort at a plotted porn movie, but it didn't work at all a sex movie for me. I didn't bother with part 2.

A very sad turn of events, but I will be optimistic here in stating that I believe Kay will wind up back on her feet. Some production company will sign her to direct their films because she is a very talented professional and sooner or later somebody will recognize that.

Kay Brandt who has a background in theatre and mainstream film was first hired by Girlfriends Films. If I remember correctly Lesbian Legal was her idea. She worked for them for a short while and then went to Digital Playground because they offered to let her start her own company Jewelbox Films. We're still going to have to wait to here what actually happened.

Damn. LL was hers? I hated it, although as Pete correctly points out (this is really weird: I've been agreeing with Pete for at least 3 months now :)) this may have had to do with the fact that Avy Scott was the only hot woman in the cast. And as I mentioned Cherry did exactly zero for me. But there's no denying her ambition and desire to make something different than mere "product". I respect that.

Reading the LLV posts now, I do feel sorry for her but I'm not surprised at all. I've been having an ongoing exchange in LLV about the slippery slope lez is on in the last couple of years with some of the eternally chirpy optimist brigade, and of course now the "lowest common denominator, churn it out in quantity and sod quality" lot strike again.

Perhaps Viv can give her a call? After all, his is the top quality brand around. Anyway, as third party material is concerned it can't be worse than Fred's ;). And Kay can perhaps make something that I will actually happily watch if she works with some beautiful European girls.

Based on her work at Girlfriends Films, I think Kay is a very talented director. However, the video "Cherry 1" had no chance at all of working for me because of the story and cast. Imagine Pink Velvet except that Lisa is another 15 to 20 years older, never has sex on camera (or off camera apparently), is disillusioned with life, runs a strip club rather than a boarding house, and her Jo is a sexually experienced stripper/rapist with a boob job, and you have the basics of what Cherry was about. The one bright spot of Cherry 1 was Sinn Sage, who performed an excellent table dance for Raylene.

The above is just my opinion and does not necessarily represent the opinions of others or this website. In addition, the above may be factually incorrect, illogical, unsupportable, and inapplicable.

:)

The boobjob quotient and the strip club premise (a perennial favourite with big-budget American porn from the early-90s Vivid days) were my main problems as well. Mainstream types who act in porn films but who clear off when the sex starts is another downer. It stresses the supposedly "outside the pale" status of porn models, a tradition that comes down from "Caligula".

The video Justine Joli Lost suffered from some of the same problems as Cherry. Dark videos rarely if ever work in porn, and videos in a strip club setting have been done to death. Give me a cheerful video with a cheerful setting and a feel good story - like Our Movie or Confessions.

I was just going to use "Our Movie" as the perfect counterexample to such "heavy" premises! Great (perwooerted) minds think alike :)

Between Syd Blackovich, another girl with far too many revolting piercings, and Justine's dreadful curly hairstyle (except for one scene where she had her more typical straight hair), Lost might be the scariest lesbian movie I've ever tried to watch :P.

Kay has now started her own company and signed a distribution deal with Filly Films. Mike Quasar will be her lead camerman.
